Texas Law Next Step of National Extremist Push to Tear Down Roe v. Wade
NEWARK — With Texas enacting an all-out assault on reproductive freedom and the U.S. Supreme Court failing to act, the health and safety of women all over the United States including New Jersey is in jeopardy.
Like his fellow radical extremists in Texas, Republican gubernatorial nominee Assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli is leading that effort here in New Jersey. The Assemblyman promotes an anti-choice agenda to roll back women’s health care, restrict reproductive rights, and defund Planned Parenthood. He has repeatedly opposed the Reproductive Freedom Act (RFA) — legislation that will protect New Jersey women from a conservative Supreme Court bent on dismantling reproductive freedom, stating “nobody believes in that no matter where they are on the political spectrum.”
“With the Texas law going into effect today and the specter of the Supreme Court decision on reproductive rights in Mississippi this October, there has been no more urgent time to stand up for the rights of women in the last fifty years,” said Murphy for Governor Campaign Manager Mollie Binotto. “Assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli is an extremist who has repeatedly attacked reproductive freedom and refuses to support the RFA. Jack Ciattarelli should reverse his decision and stand with New Jersey women and their right to access health care.”
Assemblyman Ciattarelli knows his views are out-of-touch with New Jersey voters, which is why he asked his far-right base for “wiggle room” to lie to voters when discussing certain issues, including reproductive rights.
In stark contrast, Governor Murphy has championed reproductive health care and strongly advocated for the passage of the Reproductive Freedom Act to codify every New Jerseyan’s full reproductive rights into state law.
